Buddy Ebsen, Irene Ryan, Donna Douglas, Max Baer, Jr. - the banjo music plays on into its third season, featuring the hilarious and lovable Clampett family! Continually finding themselves in fish-out-of-water situations, these slack-jawed yokels have moved to Beverly... Hills, that is. This season consists of 34 episodes on 5 DVDs, spanning 1964-65 and filled with 14 hours and 28 minutes of content in both color and black-and-white, rated NR and presented in fullscreen.
Despite being No. 1 in the ratings for its first two seasons, The Beverly Hillbillies fell out of the Top Ten in season three. However, many fans argue that this is the best season yet, with several memorable story arcs unfolding. The season kicks off with Jed's venture into the movie business as head of Mammoth Pictures, showcased in the episode "Jed Becomes a Movie Mogul." This season introduces two popular recurring characters: movie star Dash Riprock, who takes a liking to Elly May, and beatnik Sheldon Epps, who embraces the eccentric Clampett family.
The Clampetts might be the most unusual millionaires to ever grace Beverly Hills, but they are never belittled. Jed, the fountain of mountain wisdom and common sense, leads the pack. Granny, holding onto her mountain roots, explores some modern trends like rock and roll and beatnik culture. Elly May and Jethro, more open to assimilation, navigate their own paths in this new environment. This season sees Jethro's ambition to become a "double-naught spy," inspired by James Bond.
In addition to the sponsor openings and tags, this set includes the cheesy yet enjoyable 1993 reunion special "The Legend of the Beverly Hillbillies." The special offers a look into where the cast members were at the time, with appearances from Reba McEntire, Roy Clark, Ray Charles, Eddie Albert, Eva Gabor as their Green Acres characters, and G. Gordon Liddy. Despite facing criticism, The Beverly Hillbillies has the last laugh. To quote Granny: "There are three things in life that improve with age: Corn squeezins, possum stew, and The Beverly Hillbillies."
